Our client is a global manufacturer of Heavy Industrial Equipment in Steel Fabrication. They are now seeking to employ a Supplier Development Engineer to localize suppliers and work with the Global Purchasing Team for this start-up plant.

The Supplier Development Engineer will provide on-site assistance & leadership to the new start-up plant’s supply base in the execution of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), the implementation of process control and the deployment of a continuous quality improvement process. To ensure that suppliers are able to meet corporate and business unit requirements for certification and quality of purchased material. Deliver Global Leverage with Local Service Excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Supplier Development Engineer Reviews APQP documentation (e.g., Process FMEA {failure mode & effects analysis}, Process Control Plans, Gage R&R {repeatability & reproducibility}) and participates in process FMEA for suppliers’ manufacturing processes.

He/ She audits process control implementation and effectiveness.

Validates process capability. Ensures PPAP completion and approval prior to delivery of new parts.

The Supplier Development Engineer ensures resolution and implementation of robust solutions for quality problems associated with purchased materials and engineering issues.

They are responsible for the review, approval and validation of 8D permanent corrective action plans.

The Supplier Development Engineer performs quality management system audits and Supplier Evaluation Surveys (SES), including assessments of potential new suppliers.

Supports SPQ projects. Participates in the development of Supplier quality metrics and participates in Supplier Performance Management Reviews (SPM).

The Supplier Development Engineer supports certification and 6 Sigma initiatives with suppliers, New Product Introduction (NPI) and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) teams.

He/ she works with suppliers to reduce waste and improve supplier process capability and efficiency.

The Supplier Development Engineer must be knowledgeable of technological developments and trends to guide commodity teams in advancements of design, quality and manufacturing. They must have a thorough working knowledge of quality initiatives.

The SDE maintains close working relationships with suppliers and other Supplier Quality Engineers, Logistics and Material Planning Groups, Purchasing Groups, Technical Process Stewards, APQP Leader and Design Engineers.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of three years of job-related experience in Supplier Quality/ Supplier Development, preferably from an Automotive Background
A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) preferably in engineering;
Engineering or manufacturing background plus familiarity with manufacturing processes used to produce components and assemblies.
Good interpersonal communication, analytical, leadership and project management skills to develop a cooperative working relationships with others both inside and outside of the organization
Capable of using and demonstrating statistical and problem solving tools;
